Val.: «A la dula»
«Criar-se a la dula» significa criar-se amb tota llibertat, sense la vigilància de ningú. Se sol dir dels xiquets que viuen al carrer amb escassa atenció educativa per part de sos pares. «Anar a la dula» vol dir anar pel carrer ―especialment la gent jove― de manera avalotada, sense fer res de profit. De fet, en sentit figurat, una dula és una colla de jóvens que fan escama.
En sentit estricte, la dula era un sistema d’explotació ramadera característic dels llocs on hi havia explotacions de bestiar petites o molt disseminades. El mot (de l’àrab daula) s’aplicava primerament als terrenys on es portava a pasturar els animals, i finalment passà a designar el procediment mateix: cada propietari aportava les seues ovelles o cabres a un ramat comunal, i entre tots pagaven el sou d’un o més pastors, anomenats «dulers», que cuidaven els animals durant el dia. Este sistema va deixar en la parla popular frases fetes com les referides més amunt, que volen dir comportar-se i viure de manera incivilitzada, com animals salvatges, com el ramat.

This set phrase is often used to refer to children living on the streets with little educational attention from their parents. «Anar a la dula» refers to wander around the streets ―especially young people― making a row or doing nothing. In fact, in a figurative sense, a dula is a gang of youngsters making noise.
In the literal sense of the word, dula is a cattle farming system. The word was applied to the plot of land where the livestock was put out to pasture. It eventually came to refer to the procedure itself: each owner brought his sheep or goats to a communal cattle and paid a shepherd (called duler) to take care of the animals during the day.
