To share a pig

Val.

-------------------------------------------------

When we say that two people are sharing a pig, we mean that they share a business. Therefore, naturally, they also share its profits. Hence the saying Porc a mitges mai és gras (= ‘A shared pig never gets fat’) explains the negative consequences of sharing a business, namely, you don’t get out much profit of it because you have to share every penny you earn.

As language is creative and rich, one may also use the expression ‘to share a pig’ in other contexts. For instance, when there are two people having a relationship from which they get out some kind of benefit. For instance, if you suspect that two people you know are having an affair, you may express it saying Estos tenen un porc a mitges (= ‘These two are sharing a pig’), as they have a relationship (a kind of “business”) they take some benefit from (that is, sexual or sentimental benefit).
